Talks collapse, again

Posted: 12/07/2012 by bc in Uncategorized

In a recent post I wrote the negotiators had until about December 21st to cut a deal or lose the season. In a recent report Teemu Selanne said the same thing.

Ken Dryden, Harvard lawyer, former NHL goalie, 4 time Stanley Cup winner with the Montreal Canadiens and former President of the Toronto Maple Leafs, estimates they have until mid-January to slap a semi-season together. Apparently Mr. Dryden doesn’t follow Flash or this blog.

Dryden could well be right. Nobody knows for sure, least of Gary Bettman and Don Fehr. The compromise in cramming so many games into a short time schedule is player safety. When has player safety been job 1?

So what’s next? In corporate media and the blogosphere writers are taking sides and indulging the blame game. Big whoop. Who cares. Obviously there exists, like in family law, irreconcilable differences. Our California courts don’t hear irrelevant data or try to figure out who is the biggest jerk.

Maybe they can back it back on track, maybe they can’t. Of this I’m certain, time is the enemy now.

I am so hockey – starved. But also too apathetic to make any intelligent comments.

Yeah Buddy, I go from disappointment to apathetic to livid. Today I’m livid at the NHL Attempting to make Don Fehr the issue. They tried to break the Association with a one year lockout, a hard cap and couldn’t.
The players responded by hiring the best collective bargainer available. That should have sent a message to the owners but obviously they just don’t get it.

Ok – this is from a female person – Enough with the Drama – stop acting like you Must get everything you want !!!! Both sides need to be reasonable and get an agreement.

I sick of hearing our politicians and sports big wigs complaining about each other while the rest of us are left to shake our heads and swear we could do a better job!!!!!

Good one bb, who do they think are Sean Avery? Some good news this morning, federal mediators will be involved when the respective sides meet today at an undisclosed location.
