I was able to join the game with about 9 minutes to go in the 3rd. Caught some of the second on radio. Retired Hockey Mom needed a couple of cortisone shots for a fibromyalgia flare-up. Major owie.

Ducks took a point out of the barn of one the NHL’s hottest teams tonight. Our guys took more from the Sharks tonight than any of Phoenix, Vancouver, Colorado, Edmonton and Calgary had done. For those looking for a measuring stick, there you go. What I saw was smart, accountable hockey. This team continues to impress with its ES dominance. Our guys also showed great discipline by limiting the Sharks to just two PP’s.

Matt “Homeboy” Beleskey who was just 2:45 away from his first winning goal since 2009-10 said, “If we bring that game every night, we’ll be in good shape.”

What our Ducks didn’t do was put the Sharks away when opportunities presented. Corey Perry and Bobby Ryan each had the game on their stick late in regulation time. We went 0 for 4 on the PP.

Every guy in that room knows we let one get away tonight. It’s not one you hang your head over though. It’s one you suck up and use to motivate yourself to the next level.

Would the Ducks team that played last night please stand up! This is the style, temperament, intensity, and work ethic that are needed to be competitive. Gabby good job making this happen. Our defense is finally clicking. However, it is a work in progress. Our forwards had many opportunities to capitalize…it will come. Our goaltending appears to be in the best shape since the 07 Cup run (Fasth where have you been? BC love that post on Fasth)…as long as they give us a chance to compete I’m happy. The entire team played as a unit…100% effort was evident…they wanted it and it showed! This is what we the fans want to see…sound passion (no offensive zone and undisciplined penalties) is good.

Hope the team can build from this victory. IMO it was a victory!

I also thought that we were the better team. We played good fore-checking, we skated well and our forwards were helping the Ds. What a great change form the game against Vancouver. If we played like that, we can beat any team in the league.
However let’s focus on our weaknesses. Our power play did not do too much, our SO people did not score, our players like to go behind the goal in the offensive zone and then there is nobody in front of the goal. I have counted at least 10 passes that went through the crease or in front of the goal, available for a tip in, but if you have three players behind the goal line, Ds cannot be there that deep. Of course you can dig out more pucks when you send three players to battle along the back boards, but at the end it’s fruitless, because there is nobody to receive the pass in a scoring position. So too many of these victorious battles behind Niemi ended up as giveaways. Moreover, there were several fat rebounds from the shots from the blue line, but our forwards were too often standing again either too deep or too far. Most of our guys worked hard, even Getzlaf from time to time, but several times I saw Getzlaf only gliding, when he needed to speed up. There were plenty of shots, but accuracy was not there. Etem had some good moments, and I like him.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised, especially when we consider that our best players and top scorers still play just the average hockey. But they are improving. Again, Koivu and Winnik played very well.

Yup, we’re definitely not quite firing on all cylinders. Kinda like getting your car tuned up by a mechanic named Frank Clank.
They can make those corrections cz, especially the 3rd man high in the offensive zone.
